In 1902, Michael and Agniezgka Lucyszyn took a bold step, leaving behind their families in Losyach to embark on a new life in Canada. Their journey led them to Northwest Territories, which would transform into the province of Saskatchewan (and Alberta) just three years later, in 1905.

Celebrating 125 years in Canada

On May 13, 1902 the steamship Arcadia departed Hamburg carrying 1,324 immigrants destined for Halifax. During the voyage the Arcadia experienced a succession of gales and hurricanes throughout the voyage. The vessel flooded and her decks were not clear of water for six days due to hurricane force winds blewing from the northwest and tons of wate swept over the decks. Despite she arrived outside of Halifax with no serious damage but fog forced the ship to remained outside the habour for one extra day before finally docking in Halifax on May 29, 1902.

As Michael and Agniezka along with their six children disembarked from the Arcadia, they began their new life and over the next four generations their family would grow and prosper thoughout Canada and abroad.
