Upon Michael’s arrival in Canada, he worked on his uncle’s farm for the remaining year to work off his passport. Mary (born Nov. 16, 1905), who was from Ukraine left behind four sisters, one brother, and her mother when she immigrated to Canada in 1927. However, the way she immigrated was different than her husband’s. Since Mary was the youngest,\\ her family chose her so she could have a better life in another country. Mary immigrated to Canada, which symbolized freedom and prosperity. Mary’s first stop in Canada was in Winnipeg, Manitoba where job placements were given out to immigrants. Mary’s job placement was in a general store as a clerk and housekeeper in Prud’homme, Saskatchewan. After working in the store for some time, Mary met her future husband, Michael Lucyshyn and married him shortly after.

In 1933, Michael and Mary were married on a farm that Michael was renting at the time. During these years they had their family. Three sons were born: 1935 Julius Joseph; 1938 Bernard (Bodham) Edward, and in 1940 Nicholas was born, but died at birth. The family moved to the Bremen area in the fall of 1943 on SW20-39-26 (the old house). When the family moved to Bremen, they moved their chickens in hayracks with a binder canvas tied around it so they wouldn’t jump out. Michael also had 17 horses because of all the additional land he rented. They then purchased two quarters of land from Mr. Felix. They continued living there until 1948. In 1948 they purchased the Jones’ homestead a half a mile east of their old house where the farm is today. In 1956, they built a big barn and a few other smaller barns. The family milked fifteen cows and raised chickens, pigs and turkeys.

Michael was born in Jan 1905 in Poland and was the second youngest son in a family with three brothers and one sister.
